Deconocidos intervinieron y difundieron información falsa a través del portal del Diario Vea. En la web se colocó, como noticia destaca, de la supuesta muerte del presidente de la República, Hugo Chávez. 

El 04 de marzo de 2013, personas desconocidas intervinieron, de manera ilegal, y difundieron información falsa a través del portal del Diario Vea, medio impreso perteneciente al Sistema Nacional de Medios Públicos. En la web se colocó, como noticia destaca, de la supuesta muerte del presidente de la República, Hugo Chávez.

Mercedes Ortuño, jefa de información del Diario Vea relató a IPYS Venezuela que la noticia falsa señalaba que la información sobre la supuesta muerte del Presidente habría sido ofrecida por Tania Guerrero, directora de este medio. Asimismo, dijo que desconocen las causas de este hecho y que realizarán las averiguaciones correspondientes para determinar el origen de este ataque. Agregó que el medio publicará un comunicado en el que realizará una aclaratoria por la difusión de esta información falsa.

Detalló que la información se publicó en horas de la tarde, minutos después se dieron cuenta del incidente, y desmontaron la nota.

Esta ciberagresión configura una violación a la libertad de expresión e información en el país.

Fake information was tapped into and disseminated from a printed media portal

On March 4, 2013, unknown persons illegally tapped into, and disseminated fake information through the web portal of newspaper Vea, a printed media belonging to the National System of Public Media. A headline on the web page highlighted the alleged death of the president of the republic, Hugo Chávez.

Mercedes Ortuño, head of information of the daily Vea, told IPYS Venezuela that the fake news stated out that the information on the supposed death of the president had been offered by Tania Guerrero, director of that media. She also said that she has no idea why this happened and shall conduct the necessary investigation to determine the origin of this attack. She added that the media shall publish a communiqué clarifying this fake information.

She detailed that the information was published in the afternoon and that minutes later they found out about the incident and took the note down.

This cyber-aggression represents a violation to the freedom of expression and information in the nation.
